Gasquet Wildfire Resilience Program

Thanks to a grant from Coalitions & Collaboratives, Inc. the Del Norte Fire Safe Council was awarded funding for the Gasquet Wildfire Resilience Program.  This program is to train a sustainable volunteer workforce to create shaded fuel breaks on about 3.5 acres of land surrounding the communities water plant.  Additionally, this workforce will be reducing fuel loads on approximately 5 miles of roadways.

This project is critical not just for the wildfire defense, but also for the training needed to safely and sustainably continue this project into the future.  This project was completed in August 2023.

Dyuring this projects the Del Norte Fire Safe Council and local volunteers were able to dispose of 9400 cubic yards of hazardous fuels, helped to create defensible space for 76 homes, reomved hazardous material along 5 miles of roadways, and established a 3 acre shaded fuel break at the GCSD.
