Gasquet Wildfire Resilience Program

Thanks to a grant from Coalitions & Collaboratives, Inc. the Del Norte Fire Safe Council was awarded funding for the Gasquet Wildfire Resilience Program.  This program helped to train a sustainable volunteer workforce and hire two crew members.  During this project, the Del Norte Fire Safe Council and local volunteers were able to dispose of 9400 cubic yards of hazardous fuels, help create defensible space for 76 homes, relocate hazardous material along 5 miles of roadways, and establish a 3.5 acre shaded fuel break at the GCSD.

This project was critical not just for wildfire defense but also for the training needed to safely and sustainably continue wildfire mitigation into the future. It was completed in August 2023.
