The Full Story

Founded in 2002, the Del Norte Fire Safe Council is a grassroots, community-led organization that mobilizes residents to protect their homes, communities, and environments from catastrophic wildfires.

A catalyst often sparks a local Fire Safe Council – perhaps a recent fire or a group of neighbors eager to spread a fire-safe message – then embraced by the community, which turns that initial interest into a committed group that finds ways to empower the residents to do their part to make the community safer.

Fire Safe Councils throughout California educate homeowners about community wildfire preparedness activities while working with local fire officials to design and implement projects that increase their communities' wildfire survivability.

Del Norte County Fire Safe Council is no exception. We continue to implement large-scale hazardous-fuel reduction projects in multiple communities in Del Norte County.  We have created and are updating our Community Wildfire Protection Plan.  We assist other agencies, tribes, and organizations with other wildfire prevention projects.  We provide Home Assessments, help residents create Defensible Space around homes and businesses, and we strive to give residents up-to-date, accurate wildfire information while providing wildfire education for Del Norte Communities.

Mission

The Del Norte Fire Safe Council strives to provide education, training, and resources to help residents protect themselves during a catastrophic wildfire.

Vision

The Del Norte Fire Safe Council is striving to establish Del Norte County as a more fire-resilient landscape.  We are developing a grassroots community work crew, and work with other agencies who share our vision to help protect the residents of this beautiful part of California.  This is being accomplished by tackling more landscape style projects, and bringing the most up to date information and educational resources to Del Norte.
